We should be saying this every day, not just once a year when a special day comes round. Happy clappy instaland does not exist, guys. I’ve had some very low lows recently and it’s hard to know where to turn. You don’t want to burden friends, you want to be strong for family, and the dog just isn’t a good listener. . I’m a firm believer that things come right in the end; we all have our unique and crazy storms to weather. . If your storm is just too much then please reach out. You are not alone. A little over a year ago I made a conscious decision that I had given plenty of air time to my inner sabateour. Enough was enough. The time had come to put on my big girl pants and to pursue a long-desired creative outlet. I grabbed a hold of the Imposter Syndrome, gave her a hard shake & stern talking to and thus the Unqualified Blogger was born. . What started as a hobby to shine light on some self-criticism has evolved into something much more meaningful for me. This blog has been an outlet for me and a source of sanity during some recent challenging times. It has kept me moving with productive enterprise when laziness has crept in. . Back when I started I really couldn't believe it when one or two people followed, or a stranger dropped me a comment or a DM. And I still can't believe it when that happens! So I am chuffed today to see the number of wordpress followers hit 100. Maybe you see that number as tiny but I don't. I am grateful for every person who stops by to read the words I write or drop a comment or like. But even more so I am humbled by these 100 people who choose to actively follow. . I’m not sure if it was the violent storms, the fish and chips, the whisky or the wilderness but Scotland blew my mind. I know SO many Irish people, like me, who have never been before, which is so hard to believe given we are basically living on each other’s laps! If I have learned one thing it’s that it was a mistake not having paid a visit sooner. There is so much beauty and stunning scenery that our breaths were taken away on a daily basis. . This photo is from February 2017. I looked at myself so critically thinking I was “fat” and out of shape, compared to where I wanted to be. If that person could see the “me” right now, who (for self preservation) has avoided the gym for weeks and focussed on self-care of a different kind, I think she would be horrified! ♥️ I could look in the mirror now and tell myself all the vitriol to “motivate” myself into action. Or I can look in the mirror and be grateful for the legs that carry me. Grateful for the arms that can give awesome hugs. Grateful for the belly through which I get nourishment. I have stopped using my reflection as a metric for my happiness, and I can’t tell you how releasing it’s been. I jog when I want to, yoga daily (if it suits) and the gym is always there when I’m ready to go back. ♥️♥️ Your pathological critic gets as much air time as you allow. Don’t let that little voice run your life. They will lie to you and run you into the ground. With so much change lately I’ve had to be mindful of the fact that no matter what life throws down, if you’re ready to see them, there will be little pockets of gratitude in the chaos. This scene doesn’t look like much, but it made me smile. . Our commute no longer overlaps so, for now at least, we don’t have a mere hour or two together in the evenings. That means we can actually spend meaningful time without taking our shitty commute frustration out on one another. A meal shared. Wine and conversation. Chats and laughs.
