What have you done and seen in the past week? You might be like me, I've been listening, observing, contributing to causes, trying to support and participate but nervous about saying the wrong thing. The black squares seemed a beautiful gesture of solidarity when freedom of movement is limited, but even that backfired. . So I've been thinking a lot about what I CAN do to support the civil rights movement of our time...and don't @ me saying this is an American issue, because it is not. It's global. We all participate because we all enable it. Even subtly. That makes it our problem too. . I have only been the victim of racism once while abroad. It upset my holiday. It never stopped me from accessing public transport, healthcare, education or opportunity. But racism happens around me ALL👏THE👏TIME👏. Taxi drivers, colleagues, strangers on buses, friends and even family. Subtle slurs and assumptions. And what do I do? Sometimes I intervene, but it depends on the scenario. Mostly I eye roll. Say nothing. Clench my jaw. Avoid confrontation. . I am part of the problem. . So I commit to ending the silence. That should be our new normal. I will use the "platform" of my priveledge to be intolerant to racism and prejudice. It no longer has any place in my company. I will also use this time to examine my own unconscious biases and priveledge. I will shine a light on them and commit to a path of growth. . I will continue to educate myself and speak up, but also make space for minority voices when I have the chance. I'm sure I will make mistakes, but I will own them too. I am undoing a lifetime of silence, but I am starting to understand my part in this. . Throwback to last Saturday! What a gift to be able to share a sunny practice with @samadhiyogis in my garden. . If you look closely, or suspend your (very reasonable) anxiety about our current lockdown situation, there are pockets of magic in these wild times. . As I lay in savasana after a challenging and rewarding practice, I couldn't resist a smile as the breeze shook the trees around me. This was a weekend of valuable discoveries: 💖 Camping in your back garden is bloody fantastic fun, and don't let anyone tell you in requires the existence of children. 💖 Dogs that sleep in tents are immediately 10x more awesome. 💖 Having access to your toilet and fridge doesn't detract from your status as a hardcore camper. 💖 It is a physical impossibility to be prepared for the sun heating your tent in the morning. . This weekend was a total break from the monotony of lockdown life. I even managed to turn the laptop off for an extended period of time, so I can't help but wake up this morning refreshed and ready for an exciting new week. Sometimes I wish I lived in Ranelagh or Smithfield, where I could enjoy my lockdown life within the catchment areas of canals, parks and succulent freshly-roasted @3fecoffee. I see people having socially distant walks with friends or sitting with pals eating ice-cream in the sun at St. Anne's park, and for just a second I feel that all-familiar twinge of envy. . And then I take a walk down my little lane with the nosey cows, crusading sparrow hawks and dumb AF pheasants and I kick myself for having a "grass is greener" mindset when I'm so content in my corner of the world. . When we allow ourselves to live in another person's shoes, we lose connection with and appreciation for the wonderful things in our own little worlds. I am incredibly lucky to have a quiet patch to walk the dog and experience nature. . I am healthy, happy and my business is thriving, all of which I am so grateful for during these crazy days. We are blessed to be digitally intertwined during this experience; how different things would be if we didn't have family zooms and online shopping. . Life is simple. . . I am shattered today. Completely. I got dressed, put on a full face, fully convinced it would make me feel better...but I'm floored. I haven't had a "day off" in weeks (not even sure what that would look like). . I could plough on. Push through. Coffee up and buckle down. But I'm going to listen to my drained batteries and try and tune out for a wee while. . Too much zoom. Too few hugs. No family time. It all takes its toll. Be kind to yourself. Eat something yummy. Cuddle a puppy. Respect the hell out of yourself. . You're living through a pandemic. Put yisser feet up now and again, k?!

Constructive criticism can be uncomfortable, scary, and exposing...but it's the space in which you will find room to grow. . This week (with clammy hands!) I opened myself up to constructive criticism from some amazing business owners. I got feedback on my website, my branding, my language, my social media activity...no stone was left unturned...and it wasn't all praise and roses. . Did it hurt? Hell no. When you are trying to grow a business you need to leave the ego at the door, close your mouth, open your ears and tune in to what the world is telling you. Yes, having vision is important, but so is learning about your blind spots so you can improve. . First things first, time to get my website in a shape where it looks and feels like me. In the absence of a pro photographer (@dorajeancreation I'm coming for you) I've done some DIY photos to bring my personality to life online. Time to shake up the website! NYE 2019 is upon us and I can't wait for the last birrah banter of the festive season before dry(ish) January kicks in. .
